Can you make a guess on who’s the leading car brand in 2024 so far?
Yes, it is yet again, our hot favourite…TOYOTA!

In August 2023, BYD was ranked at the 8th position. In a short span of 8 months, it has risen to become the top 2nd choice for car brands.
This is a likely result of the recent government subsidies and increasing charging infrastructure has led to a greater adoption of electric vehicles.
Sales for Tesla has also picked up, ranking at position 8th.

In 2023, Electric Vehicles (EVs) accounted for 18.1% of the 30,225 new cars put on the market (up from 11.7% in 2022),
With many brands coming up with their own models of electric vehicles and EVs getting an increasingly bigger market, there’s no doubt that EVs have found their place in consumers’ hearts.
Even Toyota’s best-selling models were petrol-electric hybrids, including the Corolla Cross launched in January 2023.
Singapore’s government has also been actively pushing for EVs.
On top of the various incentives given to cleaner-energy vehicles, including the EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI), Enhanced Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) and more, the following regulations will also take place:
From 2030, all new car registrations in Singapore will have to be of cleaner-energy models. This refers to models that are either electric, hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell cars.
It is also announced that there will no longer be any new diesel car registrations from 2025 onwards.
Mercedes-Benz has backtracked its previous plan to go all-electric by 2030, and continue to produce internal combustion and hybrids.
Their battery-electric vehicles are more expensive than their combustion-engines, which makes it unsustainable, and difficult to compete with Chinese competitors’ stunningly low prices.
However, sales of Mercedes-Benz has remained at prior-year level, and the luxury car brand remains optimistic about its upcoming market demand and sales performance.
