Prices Dip Again For the Dragon Year

SINGAPORE: Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums for February's 2nd bidding was released at the latest tender exercise on Wednesday (21 Feb).

Premiums for Cat A fell by $2,199 from $79,000 to $76,801 for smaller cars below 1600cc.

Cat B also fell slightly by $5,338 from $102,338 to $97,000.

CNY Holidays Affected Sales

Trade analysts believed that the Chinese New Year holidays led to reduced demand for cars, which translated to lower demand for COEs.

According to the Land Transport Authority, the total number of bids fell by 4.8 per cent to 4,277.

Jason Lim, managing director of BMW authorised agent Eurokars Auto, said "The drop was expected due to the Chinese New Year long weekend, when a lot of people travelled out and things were a little bit quieter in the automotive belt.

COE Quota Will Continue to Rise, Prices Expected to Trend Downwards

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) had previously announced that the quota for February to April quarter will go up by 2%.

COE quota for Cat A & Cat B will continue to increase before reaching the peak supply period from 2026.

As the supply grows, Mr Neo Nam Heng, chairman of diversified motor group Prime, said COE prices will continue to trend downwards as supply grows.
